Luca Mastini’s journey in Chinese martial arts began in 1995 with the study of various Kung Fu styles. Since 2006, he has deepened his practice of Wu Zu Quan under the guidance of Master Yee Yap Leong. With over thirty years of practice and twenty-six years of teaching experience, he has contributed to the development of Centro Studi Kung Fu Spoleto, establishing a school dedicated to preserving and transmitting traditional martial arts.
His ongoing exploration led him to DECODE through a longstanding friendship with Master Mauro A. D’Angelo, whose martial arts expertise and personal qualities he has known and appreciated for many years. As he deepened his understanding of the DECODE Method, Luca recognised a continuity with his previous experience, particularly in the work on body structure and the release of unnecessary tension. At the same time, he discovered a methodology capable of transforming internal qualities, often addressed only theoretically, into abilities that could be systematically developed through practice.
Particularly significant was his new understanding of Zhan Zhuang, no longer regarded as simply holding a static posture, and of relaxation as a process extending beyond the muscular level to involve the entire organisation of the body.
What Luca particularly appreciates about Master D’Angelo is his precision in teaching, his ongoing research in China, and the individual attention he dedicates to students, maintained even through communication and guidance at a distance.
Since 2023, Luca has been teaching Internal Alchemy at his school in Spoleto, now an officially recognised DECODE school. Having completed the three-year teacher training programme, he continues to deepen his knowledge through regular participation in DECODE Intensive Courses and seminars led by Master D’Angelo throughout Europe. These opportunities allow him to consolidate his practice and maintain an active exchange with the DECODE community.
In his teaching, Luca prioritises quality over quantity, a constant return to the fundamentals, and methodical progression. His aim is to guide students towards recognising the body’s internal connections, directly verifying the principles they study, and developing independence in their practice through genuine experience rather than the mere repetition of exercises.
